Dick Van Dyke's Illinois home faces demolition as he Tweets on 'happy memories'

The childhood home of actor Dick Van Dyke could be torn down after a central Illinois city condemned the dilapidated building.

The Champaign News Gazette reports that the 89 year old actor took to Twitter this week to call attention to the Danville home he and brother Jerry lived in during high school after relocating from Missouri.

The star of 'Mary Poppins', 'Chitty Chitty Bang Bang' and television's 'The Dick Van Dyke Show' recalled the 'happy memories drifting around in there' in a tweet to his 85,200 followers.

Still cares: The 89 year old actor took to Twitter this week to call attention to the Danville home he and brother Jerry lived in during high school after relocating from Missouri

Mayor Scott Eisenhauer said the city didn't know the Van Dyke connection when it condemned the house in December, arpels van cleef necklace replica. The property's last owner died in 2011.

Eisenhauer expressed a willingness to donate the property as part of a prospective rehabilitation project, should the city eventually gain ownership.

Van Dyke himself caught wind of the news and tweeted to a news outlet:'Read that my childhood home is coming down. Happy memories drifting around in there. Would someone grab a picture for me?'

'I was sad to hear it,replica van cleef and arpels black clover necklace,' Van Dyke said. 'That's where I spent my whole childhood and so did my brother (Jerry Van Dyke). I have a lot of great memories there.'

Van Dyke went on to reminiscent about bygone days in the Midwest.

'In those days, no one micromanaged their kids,' Van Dyke said. 'When school was out, summer was ours. We were barefoot, and would go skinny dipping in the Vermilion River and we would bicycle out to the lake. Life was just wonderful.'

He also discussed how Danville, like so many Rust Belt towns, has now seen far sunnier days.

'I remember the last time I was there a few years ago, I saw an empty lot on Vermilion Street in Downtown Danville I was shocked to see that. It seems like after Walmart moved in, downtown just died. I hate to see it like that,' he said.

Turning back to the home, Van Dyke wondered if it might somehow be salvaged.

'If it could be fixed, maybe we could do something, like take a collection up, or something. Danville is my home and I do still care.'
